The end of the war also resulted in the unilateral and unconditional surrender of the Pakistan Army and subsequent secession of East Pakistan into Bangladesh. On this day in 1971, the chief of the Pakistani forces, General Amir Aabdullah Khan Niazi, along with 93,000 troops, surrendered to the allied forces consists of Indian Army and Mukti Bahini, led by General Jagjit Singh Aurora, of India in the Ramna Race Course, now Suhrawardy Udyan, in Dhaka after their defeat in the war.

The Indian Army celebrated 'Vijay Diwas' at the Shivaji Park in Mumbai on Sunday, December 16 to commemorate its military victory over Pakistan in the 1971 Indo-Pak war.

It was really a great thing to look at the at motor cycle display by Army, sky-diving, and aero-modelling display....In short it was a great day indeed and felt me proud watching the scene, our jawans (army) and the complete atmosphere....
